Longevity

More capable years, not a secret.

This page will grow and may change. It is educational only — not a treatment plan, a longevity program you can enroll in from the web, or medical advice for your situation.

Each morning

A thought for the day

The line below follows the calendar. It changes on its own. Come back tomorrow; there will be another.

Today

Years are given. How they are lived is practiced.

Two words people mix

Lifespan and healthspan

Lifespan

How many years you are alive. It is the calendar from birth to death. Public health, genes, luck, and a few hard habits move it. It is not the whole story.

Healthspan

How many of those years you can still use — walk, think, stay at home, keep work or family in reach. The aim of serious longevity work is to keep healthspan close to lifespan: fewer years spent dwindling.

A membership practice cannot promise extra decades. What it can offer is time, measurement, and a physician who sees you often enough to notice drift — in sleep, blood pressure, weight, mood, or a lab — before it becomes an admission.

Practice, not a program

Ten things to keep doing

None of this is novel. All of it compounds. Start where you are.

  1. 01

    Protect sleep

Seven to nine hours for most adults. A regular bedtime is more powerful than an occasional long morning.

  2. 02

    Move most days

Walking counts. So does getting up from the chair. Consistency beats intensity you cannot keep.

  3. 03

    Keep muscle

Strength training two or three days a week is how independence is financed for later life.

  4. 04

Eat in a way you can repeat

Protein, plants, fewer ultra-processed foods. Not a thirty-day performance.

  5. 05

    Do not smoke

Nothing else on this list undoes tobacco. If you smoke, stopping is the highest-yield change available.

  6. 06

    Be honest about alcohol

Less is better for blood pressure, sleep, cancer risk, and recovery. “Moderate” is easy to overshoot.

  7. 07

    Know your numbers

Blood pressure, glucose or A1c, lipids, weight trend. You cannot steer what you never measure.

  8. 08

    Stay connected

Isolation ages people. Friendship, family, and useful work are physiology, not decoration.

  9. 09

    Train balance

A fall in later life can take more years than a lab value. Practice standing well while you still can.

  10. 10

Have a physician who knows you

Continuity catches change. Prevention is slower than a procedure and kinder than a hospital week.

The three that carry the rest

Sleep, activity, diet

Sleep

Sleep is when the brain clears waste, blood pressure dips, and hormones reset. Short nights raise appetite, irritability, and glucose. A dark, cool room, a regular hour, and less alcohol after dinner are unglamorous and effective. If you snore, gasp, or never feel restored, that is a medical question — not a character flaw.

Activity

The body that is asked to move keeps muscle, bone, and balance. A daily walk is the floor. Two or three sessions of strength are how you stay able to stand from a chair and catch yourself on a step. You do not need an athletic identity. You need a habit that survives a busy week in Nashua weather.

Diet

Eat enough protein. Eat plants you actually like. Cut back on ultra-processed food and sugar-sweetened drinks. There is no single longevity diet, and there is no supplement that replaces dinner. Pattern over perfection: what you do on an ordinary Tuesday predicts more than what you do in January.
